NSW Department of Primary Industries – Biosecurity

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI), under the Department of Regional NSW, drives research and development for agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. They regulate biosecurity, food safety, animal welfare, and assist in emergencies and market access. Their 2022-2030 Strategic Plan guides their mission for stronger NSW industries.

The project

We worked closely with NSW DPI utilising an iterative approach to create engaging content that was accurate and consistent across the modules. Each module had a custom-made introductory video to give an overview of the topic, and some had GIFs as a dynamic alternative to static images. Custom graphics were used to explain complex concepts and to avoid dense blocks of text. Knowledge checks with informative feedback were included within lessons and case studies were used to consolidate learning. All content was created to be accessible to WCAG 2.2 standards.

The work

The outcome

Even before the first two modules were complete, we were engaged to produce an additional four modules with the same format to facilitate training of staff involved in future emergency animal disease responses.
