Case Study: Autism CRC: inclusionED

Autism CRC, established in 2013 under Australia’s Cooperative Research Centres Programme, serves as a comprehensive resource on autism, supporting individuals from early childhood through to later life across the entire spectrum. Their mission is to effect meaningful change by bridging the autism community with evidence-based outcomes, service providers, and supporting organisations.

The need

The project aimed to provide practitioners and stakeholders with a thorough understanding of the National Guideline for supporting the learning, participation, and well-being of autistic children and their families in Australia. This guideline is pivotal in enhancing the educational experiences and overall happiness of autistic children and their families nationwide. In collaboration with the Telethon Kids Institute and Autism CRC, we developed an engaging eLearning short course, complemented by a lecture and interactive activity.

The learning solution

We designed an eLearning short course to simplify the comprehensive National Guideline documentation for practitioners. The course integrates essential information, actionable recommendations, and best practices, enriched with case studies, videos, and downloadable resources to enhance the learning experience. Real-life scenarios and authentic quotes from practitioners, families, and individuals within the autistic community provide genuine insights, illustrating the practical application of the guidelines in clinical settings.

Additionally, we created a concise eLearning lecture suitable for educational environments. Upon completing the lecture, learners engage in a facilitator-led activity that brings the Guideline to life through discussions, reflections, and practical tasks.

The outcome

Autism CRC lauded the final product as the ‘Gold standard’ for learning within their organisation. Our ongoing collaboration with the Telethon Kids Institute and Autism CRC continues to exceed their expectations, as we develop projects that align with their objectives.
