It has been developed for Instructional Designers to step through the initial consultation and analysis phase of the ADDIE process.
Not all requests for a learning solution reflect a true learning need – often, there are other issues at play eg. Physical environment, job design, motivational factors, communication breakdown.
The Learning Needs Analysis (LNA) will help you to identify to identify any capability gaps that may be resolved with a learning strategy. It helps to provide clear reasons for either developing or not developing a learning solution.
The LNA is critical in determining:
- The primary cause/s of the problem, opportunity, or need
- The audience/s with capability gaps
- Areas where performance problems, opportunities or needs are caused by a lack of skills, knowledge or required behaviour
- A recommended solution (and the role learning may play)
- Learning program and performance outcomes expected by the organisation
This is identified through data gathering, and confirms whether a learning solution is recommended, or whether another solution is required.
This pack includes a guide, examples of templates and standard questions to assist Instructional Designers to follow a consistent approach.
